A husband and wife were driving down a quiet country road when suddenly thump! — their car bumped over something small.
The wife twisted around in her seat. “Oh no! Stop the car! I think we hit a baby skunk!”
The husband groaned but pulled over. They both looked back and sure enough, there was a tiny skunk wobbling on the road.
“It’s still alive!” the wife gasped.
The husband shrugged. “Well… I could just back up and hit it again. Put it out of its misery.”
“WHAT?!” the wife yelled. “You monster! It’s just a baby! We’re taking it to a vet!”
Before the husband could protest, she grabbed her phone and called the nearest animal clinic.
“Yes, hello,” she said nervously. “We accidentally hit a baby skunk. It’s alive but shaking.”
The vet asked, “Is it bleeding?”
“No, but it’s trembling a lot.”
“That means it’s going into shock,” the vet explained. “You need to keep it warm and bring it in immediately.”
The wife looked around the car. “But it’s 80 degrees outside. I don’t have a jacket or blanket to wrap it in!”
The vet thought for a moment. “Alright, then just place the skunk between your legs to keep it steady during the drive.”
The wife slowly lowered the phone and stared at the husband.
“Did you hear that?” she asked.
“Unfortunately… yes,” he said, trying not to laugh.
“But what about the smell?” she asked the vet nervously.
The vet replied calmly, “The smell? Oh that’s easy…”
“Just cover its nose.” 😄
