Little Johnny, a small farm boy, was out in the field one morning milking a cow. He sat on his little wooden stool, humming happily and filling the bucket as the sun rose over the farm.
Everything was calm… until suddenly the farm workers nearby started shouting.
“Johnny! Run!”
Johnny looked up.
Charging straight toward him across the field was a huge, angry bull. Its hooves pounded the ground, dust flew everywhere, and it looked like it was ready to send poor Johnny flying into next week.
The workers froze in horror. Some of them even turned away because they were sure they were about to witness a disaster.
But Johnny didn’t run.
He didn’t scream.
He didn’t even stand up.
Instead, he calmly kept milking the cow like nothing was happening.
The bull thundered closer… and closer… and closer.
Everyone held their breath.
The bull stopped just a few inches from Johnny.
It stared at him for a moment… snorted loudly… then suddenly turned around and slowly walked away across the field.
The workers couldn’t believe what they had just seen. They rushed over to Johnny, who was still calmly milking the cow.
One of the men asked, wide-eyed, “Johnny! Weren’t you scared? That bull was about to run you over!”
Johnny shrugged and kept milking.
“Not really,” he said casually.
The workers looked even more confused.
“Why not?” another man asked.
Johnny pointed at the cow he was milking and said with a grin,
“Because I knew this cow was his mother-in-law.” 😄
