It was raining hard, and a huge puddle had formed right in front of a small Irish pub.
An old man stood beside the puddle holding a stick with a piece of string tied to the end. He kept dipping the string into the water and jiggling it around like he was fishing.
A curious gentleman walking by stopped and watched for a moment.
Finally he asked,
“Excuse me… what exactly are you doing?”
The old man looked up calmly and replied,
“Fishing.”
The gentleman thought to himself, Poor old fellow must have lost his mind.
Feeling a bit sorry for him, the gentleman said kindly,
“You know what… why don’t you come inside the pub and have a drink with me?”
The old man smiled and happily agreed.
They went inside, sat down at the bar, and ordered a couple of whiskies.
After a few sips, the gentleman tried to start some conversation.
“So tell me,” he said with a grin,
“How many fish have you caught today?”
The old man took another sip of his whiskey, looked at him, and replied,
“You’re the eighth one.” 😄
