An elderly English teacher loved sneaking grammar jokes into every lesson. One morning, she smiled confidently and asked the class, “If I say, ‘I am beautiful,’ which tense is that?”
The room fell silent as everyone avoided eye contact.
Finally, little Sam slowly raised his hand.
The teacher beamed. “Yes, Sam?”
He grinned and said, “It’s obviously the past tense.”
The entire class burst into laughter.
Trying to recover, the teacher asked, “Why would you say that?”
Sam shrugged innocently. “Because if it were present tense, nobody would be laughing!”
