A husband and wife woke up on a quiet Sunday morning. After breakfast, the wife got ready for church as usual. She noticed, however, that her husband was still sitting at the kitchen table in his pajamas, slowly sipping coffee and staring at the wall.
She looked at him and asked, “Why aren’t you getting dressed for church?”
The husband sighed deeply and said, “Simple. I’m not going.”
The wife raised an eyebrow. “You’re not going? And why not?”
The husband leaned back in his chair and said, “Well, I’ve got three very good reasons.”
The wife crossed her arms and waited.
“First of all,” he began, “the church is freezing in the morning. It’s always cold in there. I sit through the whole service shivering.”
“Second,” he continued, “nobody there likes me. I know they don’t. They’re always whispering about me and talking behind my back.”
“And third,” he said with finality, “I just don’t feel like going today.”
The wife looked at him calmly for a moment, then shook her head.
“Well,” she said, “I’ll give you three pretty good reasons why you ARE going.”
The husband groaned. “Alright, let’s hear them.”
She pointed a finger and began counting.
“First of all, the church is not cold. It’s perfectly warm.”
“Second, I’m quite sure there are some people there who actually do like you.”
Then she paused, smiled, and delivered the final reason.
“And third…”
“You’re the minister, so get dressed.” 😄
