A pair of best friends, both famously blonde, were hiking through the countryside after deciding they were “professional explorers” because they had watched half of a nature documentary. They wandered off the trail while arguing about whether maps worked better upside down. Suddenly, the ground gave way beneath them, and both tumbled into a deep hole with a loud thud. They sat there in complete silence for a moment, brushing dirt off their clothes.
Finally, one blonde looked around the pitch-black hole and whispered nervously, “It’s dark in here, isn’t it?”
The other blonde paused, squinted as hard as she could, and answered, “I don’t know; I can’t see.”
The first blonde nodded thoughtfully. “Maybe if we wait until daytime, the darkness will fall out.”
“Good idea,” said the second. “Or maybe we should turn on the moon.”
They searched every pocket for the “moon switch” before giving up.
A voice from above called, “Do you need help getting out?”
The first blonde shouted back, “We can’t answer right now!”
“Why not?” the stranger asked.
“Because we’re still trying to figure out if it’s actually dark!”
The stranger lowered a rope anyway.
The second blonde stared at it and sighed. “That’s nice of them.”
“What’s it for?” asked the first.
“I can’t tell,” she replied. “It’s too dark to see!”
